“If you want to make a film about independent women, shouldn’t you make a film about our family?” And so mother and daughter embark on a journey together to make a portrait about the four generations who all managed without a man. A mysterious family tradition slowly emerges. One the mother is proud of, but the daughter has her doubts.

Mea Dols-de Jong

Biography

Mea Dols-de Jong (1988, Amsterdam) studied Philosophy and Physics before turning to the world of documentary filmmaking. Mea’s graduation film If Mama Ain’t Happy, Nobody’s Happy had its international premiere at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). It was critically acclaimed by the national press and gathered multiple nominations and awards, amongst them Best Documentary Tel Aviv International Student festival, Best Short Documentary and Audience Award Sehsuchte international Festival, Best Documentary International Film Festival München, Best Short Documentary Huesca International Festival. Immediately after her graduation Dutch National quality newspaper NRC hired her to lead, develop and supervise their new content-video department. Mea is also developing several independent documentaries.
